LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a weekend off, the UK cross country teams will return to competition this weekend at the Minnesota’s Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The Griak Invitational will be broadcast live on Flotrack.org’s FloPro subscription service.
The men’s 8,000-meter (5-mile) race is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m. ET, while the women’s 6k (3.72 miles) is slated to begin at 2:10 p.m. ET.
Real time live results will be available via Minnesota (Linked above).
The meet will mark UK’s first true road trip of the season. The Wildcats were home at the Bluegrass Invitational two weeks ago, and the season-opening Belmont Opener in Nashville was a same-day trip for the teams.
The men’s team is ranked 11th and the women’s team is 10th in this week’s Southeast Region rankings.
The women’s team placed fourth, while the men were fifth at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational at Masterson Station Park two weeks ago. Aundrea Busse, who was SEC Freshman of the Week for her UK debut performance, also ran strong competing for just the second time as a Wildcat. She placed third overall, with a 5,000-meter time of 16:50.80, 15 seconds behind the winner, Katie Borchers of Ohio State.
Matt Hillenbrand made his season debut with a 14th place 8K time of 24:41.70 at the Bluegrass Invitational. Led UK to a fifth place finish, only behind ranked foes Oklahoma State, EKU as well as the talented Southern Indiana. He posted the No. 2 8K time in the conference. Spencer Hrycay was the second Wildcat to finish, with the fifth-fastest time in the SEC, 24:45.33.
The Wildcats will compete on consecutive Saturdays for the first time this season next weekend at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Kentucky would only be scheduled to compete two weeks in a row one other time this year, should they qualify for the NCAA Championships after the NCAA Southeast Regional.
