LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s soccer player Arin Gilliland was named a preseason All-American, it was announced by Soccer America. With this honor, Gilliland becomes the first-ever UK women’s soccer player to be named preseason All-American.
Gilliland was honored as an All-American for the 2013 seasons after having one of the best single seasons statistically in UK women’s soccer history. Just a few weeks back, Gilliland was put on the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Award Watch List, joining a select few players as the elite of the elite in women’s college soccer.
The senior a year ago collected 34 points, scored a career-high 12 goals, assisted on 10 goals, just one shy of the program record, set a new school record in shots with 100, scored three game-winning goals and was named first team All-Southeastern Conference.
Named a team captain, the Lexington, Ky., native took the season by storm, serving as one of Kentucky’s three team leaders in the fall of 2013. Gilliland played over 1,800 minutes on the pitch for the Wildcats, rewriting the record books in a number of categories.
Kentucky will kick off the 2014 season in Seattle, Wash., against the Washington Huskies at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 22 followed by a match against Seattle U on Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. ET.
