LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky’s cross country team will compete in back-to-back meets for the first time this season with Saturday’s Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park. The meet will be Kentucky’s penultimate competition of the regular season.
The men’s 8,000 meter race will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the women’s 5K at 10:15 a.m.
The UK women’s team is led by Cally Macumber, who has won two-straight races and five of the last 10 cross country races she has entered. Macumber also owns the Southeastern Conference’s top 5K time this season: 16:32.11.
Allison Peare has also enjoyed a strong senior season as she owns the third fastest time in the SEC this season: 17:11.08.
The UK men’s team has been led in 2013 by seniors Matt Hillenbrand and Adam Kahleifeh, as the pair has taken turns as the leading Wildcat finisher at each of the team’s three meets so far in 2013.
Kahleifeh and Hillenbrand have the No. 7 and 11 respective times in the conference at 8K so far this season.
The returning Wildcats raced at Sawyer Park twice last season, while Macumber covered the course three times as the NCAA Championships were also held there.
The UK vs. U of L matchup will headline the field, but squads from SEC schools Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt will also be on hand at Saturday’s meet.
