LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior right-hander Trevor Gott, the Kentucky career and season record holder for saves, has been named one of 51 players on the mid-season National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in college baseball, it was announced.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Gott is UK’s career saves (20) and single-season saves (9; 2012, 9; 2013) record holder. The 6-foot, 195-pound product of Tates Creek High School is one of eight Southeastern Conference players on the list.

In 2013, Gott had been a force as one of the top relievers in college baseball for the second consecutive year. He has a 4-1 record and a 1.04 ERA in 19 outings, saving nine games. In 26 innings in 2013, Gott has allowed 25 hits – 23 singles – walking five and striking out 31. He has inherited 13 runners on the year, allowing only one to score, converting nine of 12 save chances.

In his three-year career, Gott has appeared in 65 games in relief, with a 9-5 record, a 2.30 ERA and 20 saves. The 2009 Gatorade Kentucky High School Player of the Year, Gott has worked 78.1 innings, allowing 28 walks and striking out 103 and converting 20-of-24 save opportunities. He has inherited 57 total runners in his career, allowing just 14 to score, an impressive 25-percent.

Gott, the 2011 Russell Ford Cape Cod League Reliever of the Year, helped pace UK’s bullpen to a historic stretch over the last three seasons, as UK won 64 consecutive games from 2011 until last Saturday at No. 14 South Carolina when staked to a seventh-inning lead. UK went a school-record 40-0 when leading after seven innings in 2012 and is 19-1 in 2013.

Gott had appeared on the 2012 and 2013 preseason NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch Lists previously in his storied career.

Kentucky (24-16) will return to its grueling seven-game road swing with three games at No. 16 Ole Miss, starting on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Swazye Field.
