LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alex Carter, the newest member of the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team, has enrolled early for spring classes, graduating early from Conway High School during the winter intersession to enroll early at the University of Kentucky, it was announced by head coach Jon Lipsitz on Wednesday.

“Alex is a very special technical player,” Lipsitz said. “She has a great ability to play in the midfield and we have even talked about her playing some center back also because of how vital it is to have center backs who can set play with our style. We are very excited to have her come early. She felt that she was ready, and we felt that she was ready also.”

Carter played her club soccer for the Arkansas Rush under the direction of Matt Mittelstaedt, where she was part of three State Cup championship-winning teams (2008, 09, 10), as well as collecting two Presidents’ Cup championships in 2011 and 2012. Carter, who specializes in center mid, was a member of the Olympic Development Program in 2008, 09, 10 and 11 all while collecting an all-region spot on ODP in 2009, 10 and 11.

Carter also has experience in playing with the best the country has to offer, as she was selected to the US Women’s National Team in 2009, while also earning a spot in the Puma Elite Camp.

The Conway High School graduate also competed her junior year for CHS, helping lead the Wampus Cats to a state runner-up appearance while earning All-State honors in the simultaneous season.

While in high school, she was equally talented off the field, as she was a member of the Beta Club, Renaissance Club, Delta Beta Sigma, Mighty Mights, and T.O.P. Soccer.

Carter comes from a very athletic family, as she has relatives who played basketball and volleyball at the NCAA level.

“We really wanted to get her immersed into our culture and the way we do things on and off the field. We want her to be comfortable in our style early on and we think this will help her next fall, where there will be a great amount expected of her because of her talents,” Lipsitz said.
