LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky sophomore right-hander Trevor Gott has been named the 59th-best player in college baseball by CollegeBaseballDaily.com, it was announced as part of the breakdown of the top 100 players in the NCAA.
A native of Lexington, Ky., and a product of Tates Creek High School, Gott was tabbed as the No. 59 player in the annual listing of the top 100 players by CollegeBaseballDaily.com.
A 6-foot, 190-pounder, Gott excelled as a late-inning reliever for the Wildcats during his freshman season, before bursting onto the prospect map as the 2011 Cape Cod League Relief Pitcher of the Year during an all-star summer for Orleans. As the league-leader with 13 saves in 13 chances during the CCBL regular-season, Gott appeared in 18 games for Orleans, with a 1.29 ERA in 21 innings, walking only four and allowing only 14 hits. Gott was selected to the CCBL All-Star Game, played on July 29 at the Boston Red Sox’s historic Fenway Park, with the UK standout picking up the save in the prestigious game.
After the summer, Gott was selected as the Russell Ford CCBL Reliever of the Year and as a first-team Perfect Game USA Summer Collegiate All-American. Gott became the first UK pitcher to earn the Russell Ford CCBL Reliever of the Year accolade since Scott Smith in 1992.
As a freshman for UK, Gott – the 2010 Gatorade Kentucky High School Player of the Year – made 23 appearances with two saves. Overall, Gott totaled a 2-4 record and a 3.62 ERA, striking out 34 in 27.1 innings. A rocky relief outing in his final appearance of the year ballooned his ERA to a season-high and without two poor relief appearances late in the season Gott was a dominating force, charting a 2-3 record and a 1.38 ERA with two saves.
Gott’s two saves came in crucial situations, as he picked up a two-inning save in the 2011 Houston College Classic vs. red-hot Utah, hosted by the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. His second career save came in a series-victory over No. 12 Arkansas.
Gott along with UK southpaws Corey Littrell, Alex Phillips and Taylor Rogers, return to power the UK pitching staff in 2011, with Rogers and Phillips also coming off all-star summers, with Rogers earning the win in the CCBL All-Star Game at Fenway Park. Offensively, first-team All-Southeastern Conference third baseman Thomas McCarthy will bolster the potent UK attack, along with catchers Luke Maile and Michael Williams and infielder J.T. Riddle.
