CAPE COD, Mass. — Kentucky junior southpaw Taylor Rogers tossed eight strong innings in the Cape Cod League Playoffs on Wednesday night, pushing his Harwich Mariners into the CCBL Championship Series.

In his biggest start of the summer, Rogers dominated the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox through eight innings, taking the mound in the ninth inning looking for a complete-game shutout. Rogers exited the game in the eighth after allowing only one earned run and four hits, with Harwich posting a 4-2 win to clinch a berth in the two-team CCBL Championship Series. Rogers fanned six and did not issue a walk in his second playoff start of the summer.

A native of Littleton, Colo., Rogers has made nine starts this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League, considered the be the top collection of amateur baseball talent in the nation. Rogers owns a 4-4 record and a 1.72 ERA in 47 innings, striking out 40 and walking only six. Rogers, who has allowed only 34 hits in his 47 frames during the summer, suffered a hard-luck loss in his first playoff start of the summer, allowing one earned run and three hits over 7.1 innings in a 3-1 loss to the Brewster Whitecaps.

Rogers and UK teammate Trevor Gott had the honor of participating in the CCBL All-Star Game, held at Fenway Park, home of the tradition-rich Boston Red Sox. Rogers was selected as the starting pitcher of the East team, picking up the win, while Gott notched a save with a perfect ninth inning.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Gott also helped lead his CCBL team into the playoffs, falling in the first round. On the summer, Gott was dominating, earning the honor as the CCBL Reliever of the Year. The Tates Creek graduate posted a 1.29 ERA in 18 regular-season games, notching 12 saves, in addition to a save in the CCBL All-Star game. Gott tossed 22 innings between the regular-season and all-star game, striking out 28 and allowing only four walks and 14 hits.
