LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former Kentucky assistant athletics director for women’s basketball Pam Stackhouse has been named the new associate director of athletics at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., it was announced today.
“I will never be able to adequately express what Pam Stackhouse has meant to Kentucky and the women’s basketball program,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “She served the program for eight years during a time where we saw tremendous growth. The impact she made on the program will be a lasting one. I appreciate all of her contributions and I wish her nothing but success. Bellarmine University has hired an incredible person who will help move their athletics department forward.”
Stackhouse spent eight seasons at UK, including four as the assistant athletics director for women’s basketball. She was responsible for team travel, scheduling, supervising all-non-coaching personnel, budge management, facilities coordinator, overseeing student managers and supervising the team’s NIKE account. She also served as an assistant coach for four seasons under then-head coach Mickie DeMoss and was instrumental in helping Kentucky women’s basketball program rise back to national prominence. With Stackhouse’s help, the Wildcats advanced to three consecutive postseason tournaments, including its first NCAA bid in seven years in 2005-06. The Wildcats also charted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1989-90 and 1990-91 when they finished 22-9 in 2005-06 and 20-14 in 2006-07.
Before coming to Kentucky in 2003, Stackhouse was an assistant coach for seven seasons at Purdue, helping the Boilermakers win a national championship in 1999, a runner-up finish in 2001, four Big Ten regular-season championships and four Big Ten Tournament titles.
She began her collegiate coaching experience in 1995 at her alma mater Louisiana Tech under legendary coach Leon Barmore and helped lead the tradition-rich Lady Techsters to a 31-2 record and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. She also worked four years in the department’s academic advising center.
In 12 years as an assistant coach, Stackhouse compiled a remarkable 312-113 record (73.4).
The Jennings, La., native is a 1991 graduate of Louisiana Tech. She received a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education before earning her master’s degree in counseling in 1993.
At Bellarmine, Stackhouse will have primary oversight of 16 of Bellarmine’s 19 intercollegiate athletic sports.
