LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Conference names senior track and field athlete Rondel Sorrillo male runner of the week for his weekend performance at the 25th Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

A senior from Vessigny, Trinidad and Tobago, Rondel Sorrillo earns his first athlete of the week honor of the 2010 outdoor season.

Sorrillo breaks into the national rankings and is seeded tied for nineteenth after his weekend victory in the men’s 100-meter dash. Sorrillo’s victory came after an eventful start that included him racing from being and tracking down the competition after stumbling out of the starting blocks. Finishing the race ahead of the pack, Sorrillo’s time of 10.33 gives him the fastest time on the Kentucky team this year.

This is the second time in three weeks that Sorrillo has run in an event for the first time during the outdoor season and won the event.

Sorrillo’s time of 10.33 moves him into ninth place in the school record books for all time fastest males in the 100m dash in UK history.
