TULSA — Kentucky men’s soccer standouts Tyler Burns, Chad Hagerty and Tim Muessig have been named to the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic Team, it was announced by the league office.

The honor is the third consecutive honor for Hagerty, a 2008 first-team Academic All-America selection. A native of Louisville, Ky., Hagerty owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major. He has two goals and two assists in 2009 and owns nine career assists and four career goals, including a game-winning goal at rival Western Kentucky in 2007.

Burns, a native of Aura, Colo., ranks second on the UK team with three goals and two assists in 2009, totaling two game-winning goals. A business-finance major, Burns has charted a 3.67 cumulative GPA. In his three-year career, Burns has played in 50 games with 40 starts, totaling five goals and four assists, with three game-winning goals.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Muessig has been a fixture on the backline since the 2008 season, transferring to UK from Western Kentucky after the Hilltoppers disbanded their program. A graduate of Paul Dunbar, Muessig has a 3.75 cumulative GPA as a business-finance major. A 6-foot-2 defender, Muessig has anchored a UK defense that has a conference-pacing 0.78 goals-against average in 2009. In his two-year UK career, Muessig has and assist in 39 games.

Kentucky (13-6-0) finished the regular-season with a 2-1 loss to No. 12 Tulsa in the C-USA semifinals, hosted by Tulsa. The Wildcats got the first goal of the year from senior George Davis IV and a four-save outing from senior goalkeeper Dan Williams in the contest, outshooting the Golden Hurricane, 13-12. The 2009 NCAA Tournament field is announced Monday night at 5:30 p.m. ET.
