COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team concluded the season at the NCAA Regional where the Wildcats outplayed eight teams to finish in 13th place, on May 9 at the Scarlet Golf Course.
“Mallory Blackwelder led the team today with a 78 in very difficult conditions,” UK head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “The golf course was set up with very tough pins and the wind blew up to 40 mph for most of the day. It was a really difficult day to make up ground. Although we are disappointed not to advance to the NCAA Championship, I am very pleased that we reached one of out pre-season goals by qualifying for post-season play.”
No. 44 Kentucky carded a 326 as the team outplayed three ranked teams in the final round: No. 26 Stanford, No.35 North Carolina State and No. 32 Notre Dame. With a cumulative 935 (308-301-326), the Wildcats were a mere 13 strokes away from earning a trip to the National Championship.
Mallory Blackwelder concluded her collegiate career with a team-best 78. The Versailles, Ky., senior was able to break into the top 20 with a cumulative 229 (76-75-78).
Freshmen Ashlee Rose and Alyssa Randolph finished their first collegiate season. Rose carded a 231 (74-76-81) – good for a 35th-place tie – and Randolph tied for 93rd place with a 248 (79-79-90).
Junior Sara Hurwitch concluded her first season as a Wildcat with a 237 (81-73-83) – good for a 57th-place tie.
Kristin Vincent completed her second season at Kentucky in a tie for 69th place. The Burlington, N.C., native carded a 240 (79-77-84).
