LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky’s women’s golf coach Myra Blackwelder added Brendan Ryan (Oakville, Ontario) to the roster as assistant coach, Monday morning.
“Brendan is a great fit for our developing program as he brings experience in three key areas; coaching, recruiting and camp development,” Blackwelder said. “This will allow him to help current players raise their Golf IQ, but also significantly help in the areas of identifying and recruiting the best players in the world to elevate this program back to national prominence.”
Since 2005, Ryan has run his own education consulting business service that counseled families on obtaining golf scholarships in the USA. In this role Ryan worked with over 75 families, as well as met with players and national coaches from around the world. Through this work, Ryan developed a keen eye for talent, identifying and placing 11 players that are currently ranked 150 or better by the college golf ranking system, Golfstat.com.
Ryan also has eight years of teaching experience including working at camps and clinics around the nation with many top teachers and golf coaches. Through this opportunity, Ryan has gained experience working with hundreds of students by helping them in all areas of their game.
Ryan has also served in several coaching roles. At Ohio Wesleyan, Ryan was mentored by Head Coach Jon Whithaus in the areas of team practice, academic achievement, fundraising and NCAA rules. This knowledge, along with his other coaching ventures, has developed Ryan into a strong leader and mentor.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to apply my coaching, teaching and recruiting background to help develop the University of Kentucky into a national contender,” Ryan said.
Ryan attended Appleby College high school in Oakville, ON. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2004. Having already obtained a master’s degree in Sports Management, Ryan is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Education.
