- UK has not given up a TD through two games this season. The last time UK did not surrender an OFFENSIVE TD for two consecutive games was in 1993 (Vanderbilt, East Carolina). The last time UK did not surrender ANY touchdown for two consecutive games was in 1978 (Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt).
- UK has held its first two opening opponents without a touchdown this season. The last time UK did not surrender a touchdown for the first two games of the year was 1958 when Kentucky held Hawaii and Georgia Tech scoreless in its FIRST TWO contests.
- Randall Cobb saw his first action at quarterback as a true freshman, scoring a rushing TD on his first two series at QB. The last UK true freshman quarterback to see action was Dusty Bonner in 1997.
- Kentucky rushed for 297 yards, the most rushing yards since 355 vs. Indiana in 2004.
- Kentucky has scored 27 points or more in four consecutive contests and five of the last six dating back to a 27-20 victory over Vanderbilt last November.
- Kentucky limited Norfolk State to a field goal in the first half. It marks the third consecutive home opener that UK has held its opponent to three points or less in the first half. UK held Eastern Kentucky to a field goal last season and blanked Texas State in the first 30 minutes in 2006.
- UK held Norfolk State to 67 rushing yards, the second consecutive game the defense has allowed 70 rushing yards or less this season. UK held Louisville to 53 yards rushing.
- UK held Norfolk State to 165 yards total offense, the fewest since limiting Vanderbilt to 91 yards in 1996.
- UK held Norfolk State to eight first downs, the fewest since limiting Vanderbilt to eight first downs in 1996.
UK Individual Notes
- Randall Cobb completed six of 11 passes for 87 yards with one touchdown, rushing for 49 yards on eight attempts with two touchdowns, all career highs.
- In the first quarter, freshman QB/WR Randall Cobb scored on an 18-yard run in his first series at QB.
- In the second quarter, Randall Cobb added his second rushing TD of the day on a 1-yard run to put UK up 14-0 after the PAT. Cobb scored on two straight possessions and his second straight carry.
- Kentucky scored on its third consecutive possession on a 14-yard TD pass from Randall Cobb to Dicky Lyons.
- UK followed its third TD with an interception by Trevard Lindley his second of the season and seventh of his career.
- Norfolk State got on the board with a 24-yard field goal after recovering a fumble caused by a sack at the Kentucky 28. UK led 21-3 at the half.
- In the third quarter, Mike Hartline started the second half at QB, leading UK to a 23-yard field goal on the first possession. UK 24, NSU 3.
- Linebacker Johnny Williams recorded his second career sack for a loss of eight yards. Williams also posted a sack in the Louisville game.
- In the fourth quarter, Derrick Locke scored his sixth career rushing TD for a career-long 68 yards. It was the longest TD run for UK since Quentin McCord’s 80-yard TD in 1998. Locke’s rushing total of 96 yards was a career high.
- Moncell Allen scored his first career TD on a 3-yard run. UK 38, NSU 3. Allen rushed for 71 yards on seven attempts, both career highs.
- Tony Dixon rushed for 16 yards. He now has 1,001 career rushing yards and became the 30th player in school history to run for 1,000 yards as a Wildcat.
- Dicky Lyons caught four passes for 43 yards with one receiving TD. He now ranks ninth on the career receptions list (115), fifth on the career receiving yards list (1,564) and tied for fourth on the career receiving TD list (17).
- Tim Masthay, the SEC leader in touchbacks last season, has 10 touchbacks on the season after six touchbacks against Norfolk State.
- Trevard Lindley broke up one pass against Norfolk State to increase his total to 25 career breakups, two shy of the record of 27 held by Antoine Huffman.
- Redshirt freshman Billy Joe Murphy and freshman Randall Cobb earned their first collegiate start at left tackle and wide receiver, respectively.
- Kyrus Lanxter set a career high in receiving yards with 41 yards on two catches.
