As the leaves begin to turn colors and the temperature begins to drop we know autumn is setting in. Halloween is here and small boys and girls dressed as their favorite superhero or princess will be spending their days dreaming about the hordes of free candy they will be getting. Everyone has their favorite candy for this time of year and we can all think back to what our favorite costume was growing up. So in the spirit of Halloween we asked a few girls from our women’s soccer team about their favorite costumes, favorite candy, what costume they wanted to be but never had the guts to be and what their favorite Halloween story is from the past.
Julie Hull
Favorite costume: Princess Belle in the second grad
Always wanted to be: (Teammate) Cindy Abbott for Halloween.
Laura Novikoff
Favorite costume: A turtle; Laura recalls the costume as being warm, and “the bomb.”
Always wanted to be: The solar system for Halloween and she is waiting for the right year to be that.
Sarah Gaunt
Favorite costume: The best costume I have worn was my sophomore year here at college. I and the rest of my roommates: Kelsey (Fenix), Kate (Hughes), Callie (Lanphier), Ashley Menick were a little baseball team, the cubs. We made the costumes pretty girly, skirts, heels and everything…they were cute!!
Best Halloween memory: The year she decided to be a giant cardboard dice. However, that year it rained and everyone trick or treated from her mother’s van and was constantly frustrated with her because she would get stuck each time she tried to get in and out of the van.
Ashley Stack
Favorite costume: The best costume I’ve worn was when a friend and I were salad dressing for Halloween one year. It was stupid but fun. I was Italian.
Favorite Halloween story: The Headless Horseman and any other story with ghosts and haunting.
Tara Herold
Favorite costume ever worn: Bumble bee
Always wanted to be: (Asst. Coach) Erica Whatley one year because she is so cool.
Nicola Holdsworth
Best costume you?ve worn: Probably my little devil costume my mom made me when I was 3 or 4. I was such a round little child at the time and I looked awesome!
The best candy you can receive: The KING size bars without a doubt, and we definitely cannot forget about candy corn!
Favorite Halloween story: Probably the year it was snowing on Halloween and below freezing. Mom made us wear our heavy winter coats under our costumes (which recall… I was already a VERY LARGE kid!). I was a ghost that year that was basically just made of a white sheet thrown over my head and my face painted white and black… I was hideous! I think it’s best now just looking back on it.
Laura Baker
Favorite costume: My 10 year old cousins Tinkerbell outfit when I was 16.
Your favorite Halloween story: When we decorated my house with orange lights and had scary music playing with dry ice that made it so you couldn’t see our walkway. The kids were too scared to even come up to the house.
Cindy Abbott
Favorite costume: Some concoction of a green blazer, white and pink roller skates, neon pink tights, and neon shorts. It was nice.
The costume you?ve always wanted to wear, but were never bold enough to try it: A giant cucumber, or Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live.
Your favorite Halloween story: I am a Halloween fanatic and I like to go all out. It’s my favorite holiday. So since 6th grade I’ve been setting up my own Halloween scenes in front of my house. One year I got this giant coffin and laid in it scaring kids for 3 hours.
Alicia Browning
Best Costume: When I was young I was a dragon. It was a one piece suit with a tail, spikes, and a head that was a hood on me.
Best Candy: I would have to say the Halloween mary janes (the black and orange peanut butter taffy that everyone throws away!)
Best Halloween story: In fourth grade I lied to my parents about who I was going trick or treating with. I told them that I was going with my best friend Megan. However, I was really going with Megan and our two boyfriends. My parents suspected this because both boys lived on Megan’s street, so after they dropped me off, they circled the block and found we four walking. They took me home and least to say, I did not get any candy that year!
Becky Davenport
The best costume you’ve worn: A cheerleader costume when I was eight — complete with bright, rosy cheeks and all.
The costume you’ve always wanted to wear, but were never bold enough to try it: A pirate outfit.
Kristen Kover
The best costume you?ve worn: A Bumble Bee
Your favorite Halloween story: One year my dad was videotaping my brother, my sister, and me before we headed out for trick-or-treat. I was dressed as a pretty princess, quite prim and proper, and my younger sister was dressed as the Pink Power Ranger. My dad had us wave and do an individual introduction into the camera, so I stepped forward and curtsied like a pretty princess would do, and when it came time for my sister to step up, naturally she mad a huge production by getting a little over-involved in her judo-chopping fighting Power Ranger character and I found myself being hit square in the head with her flying trick-or-treat bag. At that age, of course I was embarrassed, and naturally threw a fit like little girls might do in embarrassing situations, needless to say, my face had embarrassment and revenge written all over it, and the camera caught it all.
Katie Fahey
Best costume you’ve worn: Frankenstein?s wife
Best candy to get: Any full size candy bar

Kelsey Fenix
The best costume you’ve worn: When I was 1, I was a pumpkin…it was so cute.
Your favorite Halloween story: One Halloween I was a soccer ball. When I was walking down the street some kid ran up to me and kicked me. It was hilarious.
Callie Lanphier
The best costume you?ve worn: A princess. I have been one a few times.
