SEA ISLAND, Ga. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team is currently 17 strokes behind first-round leader Ole Miss at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Sea Island, Ga. The Wildcats are 11th after firing a team score of 312 (+32) in the opening round at the par-70 Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.

Ole Miss leads the field, followed by Alabama who is three strokes back at 298 (+18) in second place. LSU and Tennessee are tied for third at 301 (+21), while Vanderbilt rounds out the top five with a first-round score of 302 (+22).

Ole Miss? Will Roebuck leads the individual standings after shooting one-under par 69 in the opening round.

Freshman Alex Volpenhein leads all Wildcat players and is tied for 22nd overall after carding a 76 in the first round. Volpenhein had seven bogeys and a birdie in the opening day of play to stand at six-over par. Sophomore Andy Winings and junior Cale Barr are both tied for 39th with identical totals of eight-over par 78. Winings had a pair of birdies on the back nine and three in the round, while Barr recorded a birdie on the ninth hole.

Junior Brad Doster eagled 15 but had seven bogeys and two double bogeys to finish at 10-over par 80 and tied for 46th overall. Senior Tyler Wilson also posted a day one score of 80 and is tied with Doster at 46th to round out the scoring for the Cats

The three-day event continues tomorrow morning. The Wildcats will tee off at 8:00 a.m.
