LEXINGTON ? Senior Joelle Schwenk and freshman Sarah Woestmann have been named to the All-Southeastern Conference women?s tennis team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Schwenk, ranked nationally in singles and doubles all year long, has led UK this year with a magnificent 27-10 overall record, including a 16-6 dual mark. She was automatic at No. 2 singles, going 13-1 as part of a run where she won 18 of 19 matches overall.

In doubles, Schwenk, who earned first-team All-SEC honors a year ago, teamed with Kim Coventry to form one of the nation?s most dangerous tandems. The duo won the ITA Southeast Regional and advanced to the semifinals of the National Indoor Championships in the fall. Ranked as high as second in the nation at one point, the pair compiled a 22-6 overall record, including a stellar 8-3 mark against ranked foes.

Enrolling in school as a 17-year-old freshman in January, Woestmann made an immediate impact in both singles and doubles. The German has been UK?s steadiest player in dual action, posting a 19-3 mark while playing mostly No. 3. She racked up a pair of wins against ranked opponents during her stellar season.

Woestmann paired with Carolina Escamilla to produce a formidable duo at No. 2 doubles, going 14-5 on the season, including a team best 7-4 in the SEC. The team earned a national ranking midway through the season after knocking off its first ranked opponent of the year against Georgia.

Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace was named SEC Coach of the Year, LSU?s Megan Falcon garnered SEC Player of the Year honors, UGA?s Yvette Hyndman was named SEC Freshman of the Year, while Tennessee?s Blakely Griffith was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Schwenk and Woestmann lead UK back in action on Thursday in the SEC Tournament, which the Wildcats are hosting. Sixth-seeded Kentucky faces No. 11 Mississippi State in the opening round at 10 a.m.
