LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior catcher Sean Coughlin has been named a Louisville Slugger preseason third-team All-American, the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced Friday.

Coughlin, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound backstop from Morrison, Colo., stepped into the Wildcat lineup in a big way in 2006 after transferring from Central Arizona College. The slugger batted .325, hit 17 homeruns and plated 55 runs a year ago while batting in the heart of a potent Wildcat lineup which featured Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Ryan Strieby and fifth-round MLB Draft selection John Shelby. Coughlin received second-team All-SEC honors and third-team All-American honors while leading the Wildcats to UK?s first SEC Championship in 2006.

The honor is the second preseason All-America nod for Coughlin, as he garnered National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association first-team honors earlier this fall. In addition, Coughlin was named to the Brooks Wallace Award preseason watch list, annually given to the most outstanding player in college baseball.

Teammates Collin Cowgill (OF) and Greg Dombrowski (RHP) joined Coughlin on the NCBWA preseason All-American teams, as both earned third-team honors after excellent 2006 campaigns.
