BATON ROUGE, LA – Freshman Giuleana Lopez turned in her second multi-goal affair of the season but it wasn’t enough to propel the Cats to victory as they dropped a 3-2 affair to LSU (6-4-1,1-0-1)in their first Southeastern Conference match of the season.

The Wildcats (5-4-1, 0-1-0) wasted no time getting on the board, creating their first scoring opportunity in the fifth minute and converting. Betsy Holbrook sent a through ball to Callie Lanphier who chased it down on the right end-line and then pushed a centering pass through to Giuleana Lopez who finished off the play with her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 UK lead.

The Tigers tied the match in the 20th minute when Michele Makasini fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that was deflected by Kate Hughes and went just out the reach of UK keeper Anne Ogundele for the goal and a 1-1 score.

LSU took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute when Ogundele came out of the goal to stop an advancing Rachel Yepez, but Yepez flipped the ball passed her and it rolled over the goal line just out of the reach of a sliding Caitlin Coughlin for the Tiger lead.

Lopez was at it again in the 67th minute, this time creating her shot as she dribbled around a defender, found herself open at the top of the 18-yard box just to the left of the goal and fired a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net tying the match at 2-2.

The Tigers netted the game-winning goal with just :03 left in the match when Katherine Lagow sent a long service ball over the top of the Kentucky defense that Roslyn Jones tracked down and drove past Ogundele for the win.

The Wildcats return home this weekend where’ll they play for the first time since September 10. UK will host the Auburn Tigers in a Friday night match-up followed by a Sunday afternoon affair with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
