The University of Kentucky men?s golf team is currently seventh after one round of play in the 2006 Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan. The Cats posted a round one score of 297 to stand eight strokes behind Arizona State who leads the 10-team field at the Tanagura Country Club.

Arizona State leads the pack with a score of 289, followed by Nihon who is second at two-over par 290. Nagoya Commerce is third at 294, while Tohoku Fukushi and Chuo Gakuin are tied for fourth at 295 (+7).

Junior Brad Doster leads the Wildcats and is tied for fourth overall with a one-under 71. Doster had two birdies and eagled the par-five 14th hole to finish three strokes behind Central Florida?s Greg Forest who leads the individual standings.

Junior Cale Barr shot a two-over par 74 in his first tournament action since the 2004-05 season. Barr had one birdie and recorded a pair of eagles to finish tied for 22nd through one round of play. Freshman Alex Volpenhein had four birdies in the opening round to tie for 31st overall with a score of 75, while senior Tyler Wilson and sophomore Andy Winings are each tied for 43rd in the individual standings with identical five-over par scores of 77.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6, for the second round of the three-day event.
