LEXINGTON ? Off to one of the best starts in school history, the Kentucky men?s soccer team has cracked the national polls at No. 20, it was announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American on Tuesday.

After being ranked in five straight seasons from 2000-2004, the current ranking marks a return to the polls for the first time in two years for UK. The No. 20 position matches the highest ranking UK has ever achieved in the NSCAA poll. The previous high came when Kentucky was ranked 20th in the 2002 preseason poll. The Wildcats have been ranked as high as 14th before, that coming in a Soccer America poll.

The Wildcats are 3-0-1 on the young season, only the third time the team has ever started unbeaten after four games. Kentucky has dominated foes, averaging 2.13 goals per game while allowing a minuscule 0.46. The domination was most evident this past Saturday as the Wildcats exploded for three goals in the second half of their win over Belmont.

The defense has proven to be a traditional stingy UK defense. Kentucky has allowed only two goals, one of which coming on a penalty kick, and is giving up an average of fewer than 10 shots per game. Overall, the Wildcats have more than doubled their opponents on shots, 75-37.

Kentucky tests out its brand new national ranking on Wednesday night when it hosts Georgetown at 7 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. In the game, the Wildcats will be looking to match the school record for longest unbeaten streak to start a season.
