LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky rifle team rallied from five points down in the final air rifle round to knock off Murray State 4640-4634 on Sunday at Buell Armory.
Trailing, all four Wildcats in the lineup fired a 97 (out of a possible 100) or better in his/her final round to lift UK to a big victory over the Racers. The win capped a pressure-packed day where the match was close throughout.
?We didn?t have our best day,? head coach Harry Mullins said. ?But I was proud of the way our team performed at the end of the match to get the win.?
Shooting without freshman Jason Dardas, the Wildcats got solid performances from freshman Andrew Roland and junior Amy Sowash to score the victory. Dardas led the way with a 585 smallbore score while Sowash paced the air rifle scores with a 584.
?We shot pretty well despite not having Dardas,? Mullins said. ?It gave us a chance to mix up our line up a little, which should help us in the long run.?
Cameron Hicks effort for Murray State wasn?t enough. He was the top shooter in smallbore with 586 and fired off a 582 in air rifle.
Kentucky returns to action this weekend at Jacksonville State.
