University of Kentucky senior golfer Matt Kohn fired a career-low seven-under par 65 in the third and final round to take home the individual title at the 2005 Gary Koch Intercollegiate at Old Memorial Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. The University of Florida held off hard-charging Kentucky by three strokes to win the tournament title.

Trailing by 11 strokes entering the day, the Wildcats narrowed the gap with a team total of 279. However, it was not enough to catch the Gators, who established a tournament record by shooting a 24-under par score of 840 (277-276-287).

Kohn shot a seven-under par final-round 65 to overcome a six-stroke deficit to become the individual medalist. He entered the day in a four-way log-jam for 10th place and completed the tournament with a score of 207 (-9; 72-70-65) to match Florida’s Camilo Villegas for the second-lowest total in the tournament’s history.

Freshman Dan Woltman fired a third-round 69 to tie for fourth and earn his first top 10 finish with a five-under par total score of 211 (73-69-69). Sophomore Brad Doster also placed in the top 10 as he tied for 10th with a three-day total of 213 (70-68-75). Freshman Andy Winings turned in a third-round 70 to finish at 217 (76-71-70), while freshman Ben Fuqua fired a three-over par 75 in the final round to end at 224 (71-78-75) for the event.

?I couldn?t be happier for Matt Kohn in his senior year to come out and win this tournament with a fabulous final round like he did today,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?He is our team leader and he had struggled a little bit to start the season so it?s very rewarding to see him come out and play like he?s capable.

?I?m extremely proud of the entire team and the way they all hung in there and played their hearts out,? said Craig. ?This was a good tournament for us and we showed a lot of character today.?

The Wildcats return to action, Oct. 23-25, when they head to the Isleworth Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
