Sophomore forward Megan Jones scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute on an assist from fellow sophomore Kate Rowlands to lift the UK women?s soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Gamecocks.

The Wildcats improve to 6-2-6 on the year and 2-2-2 in Southeastern Conference play. USC falls to 5-8 overall with a 1-5 mark in the SEC.

Courtney McCrudden gave the Cats a 1-0 lead with her goal inside the six during the 17th minute on an assist from Kristin Moyer and Ashley Schillig. The goal gives McCrudden six for the year and ties her for tops on the team.

The score remained 1-0 until the Gamecocks knotted the score during the 88th minute when Ashley Kirk scored to tie the game at a goal apiece and send it to overtime. UK managed one shot in the first OT, but Callie Lanphier?s shot missed high.

UK outshot USC 2-0 in the final overtime period as Kelsey Fenix?s shot on goal sailed high before Jones scored the game-winner for her second goal of the season. The Wildcats outshot USC by a margin of 12-8 for the game, including a 4-0 edge in the first period.

?We battled like we have all year long and came out on top tonight,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?It was just a matter of time for this team to get through our offensive struggles and they fought through it and were rewarded for it.?

The Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 14, as they open a three-game SEC homestand against the Georgia Bulldogs. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
