University of Kentucky junior center Shagari Alleyne underwent laparoscopic surgery to repair a hernia at the UK Medical Center on Wednesday morning. The procedure was performed on an outpatient basis by Dr. Raymond Gagliardi, M.D. Alleyne is expected to be at full strength for the start of practice on Oct. 14.

?We have an excellent medical staff, so I know Shagari was in good hands,? UK Coach Tubby Smith said. ?We?ll monitor his progress in the weeks ahead, but we expect a full and speedy recovery.?

As a reserve in 2005, Alleyne ranked seventh in the Southeastern Conference in blocks with 1.52 pg. He averaged 2.8 ppg and 1.9 rpg as a sophomore for the 28-6 Wildcats.
