LEXINGTON ? Kentucky men?s soccer goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum has been named a preseason first-team All-American by collegesoccernews.com, it was announced Monday.

This is the latest award for Gruenebaum in what has been a tremendous summer for the Overland Park, Kan., (Blue Valley North) native. Just last week, he was named the Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Last year, Gruenebaum allowed just 15 goals and posted a 0.81 goals-against average. He did not allow more than one goal in any of his final 17 outings.

Gruenebaum was the first-team All-MAC goalie each of the past two years while ranking in the top 20 in the country in goals against average each year. He is the only returning keeper in the country to accomplish that feat.

Over the summer, Gruenebaum led his Des Moines Menace club team to the Premier Development League national championship. He earned championship game MVP honors for making two saves on penalty kicks after the two teams fought to a scoreless draw. His Menace club also worked its way through the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to the round of 16, a place usually reserved for MLS teams.

Gruenebaum wasn?t the only Wildcat making waves Monday as freshmen Masumi Turnbull (Richmond, British Columbia/McMath) and Tim Walters (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) were each tabbed as Freshmen to Watch.

It is the second straight year UK has had two members on the Freshman to Watch list as current sophomores Nathan Marks (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) and Andrew Alexander (Atlanta, Ga./Pace) made the list a year ago.

Kentucky opens the regular season on Sept. 2 when it hosts Louisville. The Wildcats play their final exhibition on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Oakland.
