Lexington, (Ky.) ? Kentucky head baseball coach John Cohen announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Mark Tanner on Wednesday. Tanner is a senior at Neshanek High School in New Castle, Pa. He will join the UK roster this fall.
Tanner is 13-1 this season for Neshanek and has struck out 123 batters in 72 innings. The 6-2 southpaw has walked just 17 while posting a miniscule 0.82 earned run average. His signing is the 17th in the 2005 class for Cohen, his first recruiting class at UK.
?Mark Tanner is a left-hander who can pitch,? UK head coach John Cohen said. ?His numbers are impressive and we think he can step in and pitch immediately. Coach (Gary) Henderson did a great job or recruiting this young man. He?s another piece of puzzle.?
