LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 22 Kentucky Wildcats earned the sixth seed at the NCAA Central Region Championships, which will take place May 20-22 in West Lafayette, Ind. The 27-team tournament is set to tee off Thursday at 7:12 a.m. CST at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex at Purdue University.
UK is coming off a fifth-place showing at the 2004 Southeastern Conference Championships, its highest finish since 1986. The Cats fired a three-day 866 team total, which is its lowest three round score in SEC Championships history. Kentucky golfers John Holmes and Matt Kohn received All-SEC honors for their play this season.
Kentucky is set to compete against some of the nation?s best teams in the competition, including No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Minnesota, No. 12 Texas, No. 13 Texas Christian and SEC foe Arkansas.
Another Kentucky native, Brandon Brown (Eastern Kentucky University), is set to compete as an individual along with Mike Mezei (Texas San-Antonio), Tom Johnson (Northwestern), Jeremy Lyons (Iowa State), Zach Mowbray (Houston) and Zach Atkinson (North Texas).
The top 10 teams and two additional individuals from each region (East, Central and West) will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will take place June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.
A total of nine SEC schools will compete in the NCAA Championships, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, UK and Arkansas.
