NORMAN, Okla. ? Kentucky?s John Holmes was selected to play for the United States in the 2004 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship announced the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), Wednesday. The U.S. team will feature eight men?s and four women?s collegiate players. The tournament will be held July 13-16 at Taiheiyou Club Ichihara Course in Chiba, Japan.

?I am excited about the opportunity to play in an international tournament,? Holmes said. ?It is an awesome recognition and I?m excited to see a different country.?

Holmes has consistently been ranked among the top-15 men?s collegiate players all season and has led Kentucky to a No. 20 ranking in the latest GolfWeek.com rankings. Last summer, Holmes qualified for the 103rd U.S. Open and medaled at the U.S. Amateurs. This year, the Campbellsville, Ky., native will look to make his mark on the international scene.

?It will be great to play against the best golfers from other parts of the world,? Holmes said. ?I?m sure it will be an unforgettable experience.?

Team U.S.A. leads all-time U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship series, 21-7, and has won eight-straight competitions.
