LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 12th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team found little resistance Wednesday in sweeping a day-night doubleheader at UK’s Boone Tennis Complex. In the afternoon match-up, Kentucky (14-7, 4-2) captured each set in a 5-0 victory over Wright State. In the nightcap, the Cats breezed to a 5-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky.

Junior Rahim Esmail and senior Elliott Datlow made their first number one singles appearances of the season in the doubleheader. Against Wright State, Esmail soundly defeated Quincy Jones, 6-1, 6-0. Datlow, after falling a set behind Eastern Kentucky’s Lee Lester, rebounded to take the second set, 6-4, and finished off Lester in the final set, 6-3.

Esmail also posted a three-set victory at No. 2 over Eastern’s John Kellert, and Datlow notched a two-set victory at No. 5 over Wright State’s Federico Mas.

Juniors Karim Benmansour and Matt Emery, along with sophomore Tim Morgan each posted a pair of straight-set victories in the doubleheader.

The Cats will return to Southeastern Conference play Friday when they take on No. 26 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
