Two-time All-American Bradley Wheeldon established two new University of Kentucky rifle records Saturday in a 6204-6159 Kentucky victory at Jacksonville State.
Wheeldon, a junior from Eubank, Ky., broke his own previously established smallbore record score of 1188 by shooting an 1189. In addition, his 397 score in the standing portion of the smallbore event broke the previous record of 392 set by Aaron Shader in 2002. Wheeldon’s aggregate score of 1580 led the meet.
Also turning in a quality performance was freshman Vicki Goss. The sophomore from Palmyra, Pa. shot a 1166 in smallbore followed by a 388 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1554.
With Saturday’s victory, Kentucky improves to 6-5 overall, 3-2 in the Great American Rifle Conference. With the conclusion of the regular season, the Rifle Cats will now prepare for the GARC Championships set for Feb. 21-23 at Xavier.
