Dallas, Texas – Kentucky women’s tennis rolled into the finals of the consolation bracket at the Intercollegiate National Indoors in Dallas, Texas on Friday with a convincing win over the 25th ranked team in the country.
Seniors Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley defeated Maryland’s Delila Causevic and Emily Marker, 8-1, to advance to the final of the doubles consolation bracket.
“Jill and Amy played a flawless match today,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “This was a big win for them and they have a great chance to win the final tomorrow.”
Trefethen and Buckley began the year ranked No. 41 in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and have since been on a role. This latest win improves their fall record to 10-3, which includes wins in the finals of the Lady Seminole Classic and the Southeast Regional Championships. The win in the Regional Championship earned them an automatic bid to the National Indoors.
The duo will face Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette from Stanford. Barnikow and Burdette, the Cardinal’s top team, are ranked No. 5 in doubles by the ITA. The match will be played on Saturday.
