For the second time this season, the baseball game between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville has been cancelled due to inclement weather conditions in the Bluegrass. The game between the Wildcats (17-32) and Cardinals (35-13) earlier this season on April 24 was called due to severe rain and lightning over Louisville’s Slugger Field.

Tonight’s game represented the 83rd time the two intrastate rivals would have met on the diamond with UK owning a 52-28-1 series lead. UK played U of L 18 straight seasons going back to 1984 when the schools did not play. Beginning in 1985, the Wildcats rolled off 15 consecutive wins over the Cardinals, a streak that went into the 1991 season. The Cats have won the past three meetings over the Cards including an 8-3 win on April 10, 2001 in Lexington.

Kentucky will next travel to Bowling Green, Ky., on Tuesday, May 14 for a 7 p.m. ET game against Western Kentucky (33-16). Sophomore right-hander Mark Galvin (0-1, 3.44 ERA) or junior Scott Wade (3-9, 6.81 ERA) will take the mound for the Wildcats as they try to avenge a 5-1 setback at the hands of the Hilltoppers suffered on April 17 at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
