ATLANTA – Jeff Chakouian and Aisha Smith continued their assault on the University of Kentucky track and field record books with new school marks at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, May 19.
Chakouian, in just his freshman year, has reset the UK shot put record indoors and outdoors, and did it again with his second-place heave of 66-00.50. His throw topped the previous best mark by more than a foot and added two inches to his previous personal-best 65-11.50.
Smith, a junior-college transfer, finished fifth in the hammer with a throw of 179-02.00, adding three feet four inches to the school record. Smith also established the previous record a week ago at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships.
In the men’s 1,500 meters, three Cats ran personal bests. Hunter Spencer (3:45.28) and Thomas Morgan (3:36.02) claimed third and fourth places by shaving more than a second off their previous bests. Jack Morgan also ran his fastest time with a 3:49.14 to finish 10th.
