Lauren Rookledge, a junior on the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team, was honored as the PNC BankStudent-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 12. PNC Bank sponsors the weekly award, which recognizes a UK Student-Athlete who has achieved both in athletics and in the classroom.

In her first two years at UK, Rookledge has compiled an impressive academic record. The junior accounting major has been named to the dean’s list twice and had the highest grade point average on her team for the 1999 fall semester. Rookledge was also one of four Wildcats named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 1999-2000 season.

On the court, the Cape Town, South Africa native has competed in two fall tournaments and has already upset her first ranked opponent of the season defeating 98th-ranked Vilmarie Castellvi of Tennessee. Rookledge also pulled a near upset of Alison Ojeda of Tennessee, the nation’s 29th-ranked player, but was defeated in a third set tiebreaker.

Rookledge and the Cats will be back in action on Oct. 20-22, when they travel to Stone Mountain, Ga.,to compete in the SEC Fall Tournament.
