The 10th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will play host to Southeastern Conference foe Florida on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. The Wildcats have never beaten the Gators in the six times they have played each other and Florida won the last meeting 2-1.
“This is always one of the biggest games of the year. I feel that we are physically and mentally ready,” UK coach Warren Lipka said.
Kentucky (10-1, 3-0 SEC) is on an eight-game win streak after downing Alabama and Auburn in the first weekend of full conference play. Keri Boyce leads the team in shots (50), goals (8), and points (22), while Annie Gage leads in assists (8), which also ranks her third in the SEC overall statistics. Overall, Boyce is tied for second in the SEC in points and is third in goals.
Boyce, Gage, and Elizabeth Ramsey are all tied for first in conference match statistics for assists and Gage is tied for first in points as well. Goalkeeper Beth Wells has notched four shutouts this season and has only allowed nine scores, for goals against average of 0.82. Both stats rank second in the SEC.
Kentucky leads all conference match categories except two-points allowed and goals allowed. Florida, which has not allowed any points or goals in SEC matches this season leads both categories.
The Gators (6-6, 2-0 SEC) are led by Andrea Sellers and Abby Wambach. Sellers leads the team with seven goals, five assists and 16 points. Wambach is close behind with six goals, four assists and 18 points. Goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren has 60 saves and 1.8 shutouts for the season and leads the SEC in conference matches for goals against average (0.00).
