The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (2-1, 1-0) lost tonight, Sept. 1, for the first time this season to Minnesota, 1-0, at the University of Minnesota Tournament on the team’s first road trip of the season. Minnesota now leads the series 2-1.

Sophomore Keri Boyce led the team in shots with six and Annie Gage followed closely behind with four. UK goalkeeper Beth Wells recorded five saves for the night. Kentucky outshot the Gophers 19-15, but were unable to convert. The Cats also led in corner kicks with 10 as opposed to Minnesota’s three.

The only goal came in the 40th minute as Gopher Laurie Seidl took aim from the middle off assists from Keely Dinse and Allyson Brodie. Leading Minnesota (1-1) in shots were Alison Rackley, Kyndra Hesse, Rachael Roth and Laurie Seidl with three apiece.

The Wildcats will play the second game of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 3 when they face Northwestern at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium at 1 p.m. ET. The Northwestern Wildcats are led by Brooke Bell, Erin Ekeberg , and Katie Hertz. The series is tied at 1-1 and Northwestern shutout Kentucky, 2-0, the last time the teams met.
