Wildcats to play Alabama next.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 6, 1998) — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer teamdefeated Ohio University 3-1 on Sunday at the UK Soccer Complex for itsfirst victory of the season.

All-SEC candidate Carrie Staber opened the scoring for the Cats in the 21stminute, volleying a shot over OU goalie Vanessa Dennis to give UK a 1-0lead. Then in the 65th minute, Ohio’s Erin McCoy accidentally put anown-goal between the OU goalposts, putting the Cats up 2-0. Four minuteslater, Jen McMaster scored off a Staber cross to widen the margin to 3-0.The Bobcats finally found the net with 12 minutes remaining on a header byMindy Boggs to close out the scoring.

The Wildcats (1-0-1) face their first Southeastern Conference opponent onFriday, Sept. 11, when they take on Alabama at the UK Soccer Complex at7p.m.
