FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Kentucky senior Matt Kavanagh claimedninth place in the 35-pound weight throw Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Trackand Field Championships at the University of Arkansas.

Kavanagh’s toss of 63-10.50 vaulted him over Iowa’s Jeremy Allen by 4.25inches. Though his signature event is the hammer, which he throws duringthe outdoor season, Kavanagh’s first trip to the NCAA Indoors was a goodexperience for him and will help him prepare for the hammer.

The UK track and field team will now focus on the outdoor season as itprepares to face competition at the Hurricane Classic in Miami, Fl. Theaction takes place on Saturday, March 18, 2000.
