LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky baseball program signed nine newcomers for the2001 season in the fall signing period, Coach Keith Madison announcedWednesday.
Among the signees is Aaron Herr, son of former St. Louis Cardinals secondbaseman Tommy Herr. Herr, a shortstop from Lancaster, Pa., has been ratedas the 37th-best high school prospect by Baseball America and is widelyconsidered one of the nation’s top talents.
Also inking with the Cats was Louisville Ballard’s Spencer Graeter.Graeter is a leading candidate for Kentucky Mr. Baseball and was thestarting point guard on Ballard’s state championship basketball squad lastspring.
Other signees were:
- Jessie Barber an infielder from Indianapolis’ Carmel HS
- Caleb Brock, a catcher from Whitesburg, Ky., via Lincoln Trail JC
- Mark Galvin, a pitcher/outfielder from Elizabethtown
- Corey Hahn, an infielder/pitcher from Louisville Male
- Justin Hampton a left-handed pitcher from Belleville Area College and 1999 Colorado Rockies draft pick
- Spencer Preston, a catcher from Okaloosa-Walton JC
- Brent Stephens, an outfielder from Atlanta’s St. Pius HS
“We’re extremely happy with this class,” Madison said. “These young menwould be a great addition to any baseball team and they should enjoy a lotof success at the University of Kentucky.”
