LEXINGTON, Ky. – Robinson Granted Extra Year, Will be Allowed to play in 2000Season: UK wide receiver Jimmy Robinson, who is sitting out the 1999season because of a broken arm sustained during the summer, has beengranted an extra year in order to complete his eligibility, announcedSandy Bell, UK’s Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. Theruling was made by the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement office.
Robinson began his career in 1995 at Georgia Military Collegebut missed that season because of injury. He played at GMC in 1996,then transferred to Kentucky and played the 1997-98 seasons.Ordinarily, the 1999 season would have finished Robinson’s five-yearperiod for completion of eligibility, but the NCAA has granted anextension because he has missed two seasons because of injury. He willbe allowed to play during the 2000 season.
“First of all, I want to thank God and second, I want to thankMrs. Bell for her work. She did a really good job on this,” Robinsonsaid. “I want to thank the people at the NCAA for their decision. Ialso want to thank our fans. I have received a lot of support this yearwith fans sending cards and letters of encouragement.”
Robinson, from Stone Mountain, Ga., will graduate in May, 2000,with a degree in social work. He plans to begin graduate school or worktoward a second bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2000.
In his two seasons as a Wildcat, Robinson has caught 61 passesfor 651 yards and four touchdowns.
