DeKALB, Ill. – University of Kentucky men?s soccer coach Ian Collins wasnamed Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year on Thursday at the MACTournament Banquet.
Collins was selected by his fellow coaches after guiding the Cats to arunner-up MAC finish and a 10-6-1 record overall. It marks the second time inthree years that Collins has earned MAC Coach of the Year honors.
?It?s always nice to be recognized by your colleagues,? Collins said.?But the award is a tribute to the hard work done by Assistant Coach JeffChaney and our players.?
Also earning honors were Cats Lee Baker, Giovanni Fernandes, IlkkaJantti and Todd Stonestreet, as the four were named All-Mid-AmericanConference. Baker, Fernandes and Jantti were first-team selections whileStonestreet earned a second-team nod. The Wildcats? three first-team selectionswere tied with regular-season champion Akron for the most in the MAC.
UK continues its season on Friday when the Cats face EasternMichigan infirst-round MAC Tournament action. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at HuskieField.
