LEXINGTON, Kty.–University of Kentucky men’s basketball trainer Eddie Jamiel has resigned his position for personal reasons, Coach Tubby Smith announced today.

Jamiel served as men’s basketball trainer for the past three seasons. He had joined Coach Rick Pitino’s UK staff in 1995 from Providence College.

“I really appreciate everything he’s done for us this past season,” Smith said. “He had our players back on their feet and competing quicker than any trainer I’ve ever been around. Just look at the job he did with Jeff Sheppard after he sprained his ankle in the SEC Tournament. Jeff should have missed most of the NCAA Tournament. “‘Fast Eddie’ always gave the guys personal attention and we’re really going to miss him.”

UK Athletics Director C.M. Newton said the search for Jamiel’s replacement will begin immediately.
