Women's Soccer

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team has signed five recruits for the 1999 season.

Keri Boyce, a forward from Birdsboro, Penn., has been a member of the EPYSAState ODP Team since 1994, leading the team in scoring in 1997. At DanielBoone High School, Boyce was the leading scorer for three straight years.She broke the school records for total points in a single season, careerpoints and career goals. She was named All-County and All-Division in 1996,1997 and 1998. In December, Boyce was named Most Valuable Player of theMiami Junior Orange Bowl, one of the premier tournaments in the country.

Josephine Fletcher is a goalkeeper for the women’s division of Liverpool,one of the most recognized English Premiership clubs. Fletcher is also amember of the England U18 and senior national squads in England. Fletcherhas also played for Everton, where she won a national league championshipmedal.

Meghan McCourt, a sweeper from Versailles, Ky., has been named to theKentucky All-State first team for the past two years. While at WoodfordCounty High School, McCourt was named to the All-District Team twice andthe Regional Team once. McCourt was also the team MVP for three years andnamed to Who’s Who in Sports in Kentucky during 1998-99.

Elizabeth Ramsey has played both forward and midfielder for Hilliard DarbyHigh School in Hilliard, Ohio. In 1996 and 1997, she was a member of theRegion II team and the Ohio Premier club team. She is also a member of theU18 national pool. She was named to the All-District team two years and theAll-State Division II second team one year. Last season, she was voted MostValuable Player.

Brooke Walters is a midfielder from Russell High School in Russell, Ky.She was named All-District, All-Area and All-Region in 1996 and 1997. Shewas also Russell’s Most Valuable Player in 1997 and 1998. Walters is theonly Russell player in history to be named to the Kentucky High SchoolAthletics Association All-State first team. Walters also holds the seasonand career records for goals and assists at Russell.

“We are really excited to sign such a group of high-qualitystudent-athletes,” UK head coach Warren Lipka said. “We expect them to makea strong contribution to our program.”
