LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wayne Turner scored 14 points and Jamaal Magloireregistered his second double-double of the season to lead No. 6 Kentucky to a86-62 win over LSU on Saturday.
Eleven different Wildcats scored, including four in double figures. Theywere led by Turner, who became the 46th Kentucky player to score 1,000 pointsin his career.
The win was Kentucky’s 300th at Rupp Arena, the 23-year-old facility namedfor longtime coach Adolph Rupp, and the ninth win in 10 home games for Kentucky(19-4, 8-1 Southeastern Conference) this season.
LSU (10-8, 2-7) took an early 7-2 lead on three perimeter shots, including a3-pointer by Maurice Carter.
But the Tigers quickly wilted in the face of a rare press defense by coachTubby Smith. A Turner steal and layup to finish the fast break gave Kentuckyits first lead, 9-7, and the senior point guard scored six points in the 17-4run that gave the Wildcats control.
For the game, Turner was 6-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-2 from thefree-throw line, with six assists and no turnovers.
Magloire finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, freshman Desmond Allisonhad 11 points and Heshimu Evans scored 10.
Maurice Carter led the Tigers with 15 points, while Jabari Smith had 11points and seven rebounds. The Tigers played their first game without seniorguard Willie Anderson, who tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in theTigers’ loss to Arkansas on Wednesday.
LSU came in averaging a conference-worst 19.9 turnovers per game, and theWildcats’ sustained press forced the Tigers into 12 first-half turnovers.Kentucky scored 13 points off those giveaways and, in spite of 54 percentshooting by the Tigers, led 49-35 at the half.
Kentucky came out sluggish in the second half, and the Tigers started with a10-1 run that cut the deficit to five points.
Moments later the Wildcats went on a 21-2 surge in which eight differentWildcats scored.
