LEXINGTON, Ky. – Meghan Burke, a native of North Haven, Conn., has been named an assistant coach for the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team, Coach Bernadette Mattox announced Thursday.

Burke, 24, comes to UK from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., where she served as an assistant coach for one year while pursuing her MBA in Sports Management. Before working at Lynn, she worked as an assistant coach at Southern Connecticut State where she began working on a master’s degree in physical education/exercise science. Burke was a four-year letterwinner at St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y. under then-coach Joe Mullaney, Jr. As a senior captain for the Red Storm, Burke averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

“Meghan will be an added bonus to our coaching staff, ” Mattox said. “She is very knowledgeable of the game and we are excited to have her join us at Kentucky.”

Besides her on-court duties, Burke will also be responsible for several of the Wildcats’ administrative duties and will assist in all aspects of recruiting and scouting for Kentucky. She replaces Mollie McClure who completed her position as a graduate assistant at the end of the 1998 season.
