LEXINGTON, Kty. – A total of 124 University of Kentucky football alumni have committed to play in or attend the alumni portion of the Blue/White Spring Football Game, which will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT at Commonwealth Stadium.

The alumni will split into two teams and play touch football for the first quarter of the Blue/White Game. The score of the game will remain on the board when the varsity begins play in the second quarter. The number of alumni attending has grown from 105 last year to 124 this year. Having the alumni play one quarter of football was the idea of Coach Hal Mumme as a means of helping keep the former players close to the program.

“The word spread about how much fun the guys had last year,” Mumme said. “We had similar growth in numbers when we did this at Valdosta State.”

The alumni will have an organizational meeting Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Nutter Field House. The alumni and their families will enjoy a cookout at the K-House beginning at 7 p.m. The alumni will report to the stadium Saturday at noon and be divided into Blue and White teams. The coaches this year are Charlie McClendon, a former Wildcats star and head coach at LSU, and long-time Lexington-area high school coach Roy Walton.
