BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky freshman Julius Randle was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. Randle averaged 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in a pair of victories. The honor is the second weekly accolade of his career.
In a win over Texas A&M, Randle poured in 13 points and added 11 rebounds for his SEC-leading 11th double-double of the season. He also dished out three assists and had a pair of blocks in the win. He followed that performance with 14 points and nine boards in the win over Georgia. With three more assists against the Bulldogs his six for the week ranked second on the squad.
Randle enjoyed a 10-for-11 (.909) performance from the charity stripe and he shot .517 from the floor for the week including hitting his second career 3-pointer against the Bulldogs.
The Dallas native has steadily moved up the UK freshman records list and this week ascended to ninth for rebounds (199) and free throws (113).
Kentucky hits the road for two matchups this week. Up first for the Cats is a trip to Baton Rouge for a 9 p.m. ET tip at LSU on Tuesday.
