LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s golf team will return to the links for the second time in as many weeks beginning March 1 at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate tournament held in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
The three-day tournament will begin on Sunday and conclude Tuesday on the Los Cabos Querencia course. The tournament is a par-71 consisting of 6,928 yards.
This will mark the third-consecutive season the Wildcats will compete in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The Wildcats brought home a fourth place team finish in the 2014 event. Eighteen holes will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. ET in each of the opening days of competition, while the final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET. “The Querencia Cabo Collegiate is one of the finest college events,” UK coach Brian Craig said.
“The golf course is great and the field is loaded. We will need to bring our best efforts this week. This team is ready to grow and play better than we have played this year. Querencia would be a great time for this group of hard working men to break out.”
Highlighting UK’s lineup this week is junior David Snyder who led the team with a 13th place finish last week at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. Snyder fired consecutive 1-under par rounds of 71 over the final two rounds to pace the Cats. Snyder competed at the Querencia a season ago and finished strong with a final round 71.
Freshman Tyler ‘Chip’ McDaniel, who joins Snyder as UK’s stroke-average leader at 72.3, will compete in his sixth event in his first season in the Blue and White. Classmate Cooper Musselman will match that feat with his sixth appearance in UK’s lineup in 2014-15. Musselman has one top 20 finish in his freshman campaign.
Senior Will Bishop and sophomore Stephen Stallings round out the Wildcats’ lineup. Bishop, who played in the event a season ago, is the second UK player who is familiar with the course. Stallings will make his spring debut in the Kentucky lineup after seeing action in three fall tournaments.
The field consists of Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, Houston, Lamar, LSU, Ole Miss, Rice, South Florida, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Washington.
Live stats will be provided by www.golfstat.com and a complete recap following each day of action will be available at UKathletics.com.
