Three Wildcats Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team
Three Kentucky football players – Luke Fortner, Colin Goodfellow and Josh Paschal – have been named to the 2021 Academic All-America® Football Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Wednesday. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Kentucky’s three honorees tied with Boise State and Michigan for the second-most nationally with only Cincinnati (four) having more. This marks the third time in the past four seasons Kentucky has had at least one student-athlete named Academic All-American and five times in coach Mark Stoops’ nine years at the helm.
Fortner is a “super senior” and center from Sylvania, Ohio who graduated in December of 2019 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He has also finished his requirements for a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and is on track to graduate in December of 2021. He is currently working on a second master’s degree in business administration from UK’s prestigious Gatton College of Business and Economics. Fortner is a five-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named to the CoSIDA All-District team last season as well.
Goodfellow is a senior and punter from Cleveland, Ohio. The three-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll member graduated in May of 2021 with a nursing degree and is currently working on a second degree in kinesiology and health promotion.
Paschal, a senior defensive end from Prince George’s County, Maryland, graduated in May of 2021 with a degree in family science and a minor in health promotion and is currently working on a second degree in communication. The two-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll member was on the CoSIDA All-District Team in 2020 and is a current semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award for the second straight season.
