Rivalry Renewed: Kentucky, Louisville Square Off in Round Two
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky and Louisville will renew their acquaintance on the baseball diamond on Tuesday night, as the Wildcats look to secure a regular season sweep of the rivalry for the first time since 2014.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and the game will be aired live on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app. The UK Sports Network will broadcast the game via radio on 630 AM (WLAP) Lexington and on UKAthletics.com, with Darren Headrick on the call. Dave Neal and Chris Burke will announce the game for ESPNU.
Two weeks ago, UK traveled to Louisville and knocked off the No. 5 Cardinals 11-7 at Jim Patterson Stadium. The wild affair saw lots of early runs and a career effort from UK sophomore shortstop Ryan Ritter, who belted a three-run home run and narrowly missed a grand slam, instead settling for a three-run double as part of his six RBI night. He also delivered two spectacular defensive plays that saved runs.
The Cats have won two of three at home against the Cardinals since coach Nick Mingione took over, claiming both the 2017 and 2018 games in Lexington. The win at Louisville on April 6 was the program’s first there since 2014.
